Meeting point Torsby
Torsby is located about 100km north of Karlstad along the road E45/E16. You will go to Torsby if you have booked a canoe tour on Röjdån or Rottnan.
Note! Vildmark i Värmland also has its office in Torsby, but this is not a meeting point for any of our tours. We do not meet at our office in Torsby for timber raft tours or canoe tours.
By public transport
From all the major cities such as Gothenburg, Stockholm, Copenhagen or Oslo, you can go by train or bus to Karlstad, and from there by train or bus to Torsby.
Search on Google Maps to get an overview from your starting point to Torsby. Then you can choose your travel option and buy your ticket at SJ (train), Flixbus or Bus4you from your starting point to Karlstad.
When you travel on public transportation within Värmland, you travel with the company “Värmlandstrafik” (in this case we assume you want to travel from Karlstad to Torsby). You can visit their website and search for available dates and times: https://www.varmlandstrafik.se/varmlandstrafik. The website is only in Swedish, but on the first page in the field “Från” you write “Karlstad” and then choose either “Karlstad Busstationen” (the bus station) or “Karlstad Centralstationen” (the railway station) from the options.
In the field “Till” you write “Torsby” and choose the option “Torsby Resecentrum”. In the next field you fill in the date (and time) you want to travel. Then you click “Sök resa”.
If you take the train/bus from Karlstad it is about 500 meters walk from the station in Torsby to the meeting point. Follow the footpath along the railroad east to the railroad crossing. Pass the railroad and turn right onto the street ”Bangårdsgatan”. Follow ”Bangårdsgatan” until you reach the street “Kvarngatan”. Turn left and follow “Kvarngatan” straight ahead (crossing the river on a footbridge) and you will arrive to the meeting point, which is just after the footbridge on the left.
Travel by car
From Gothenburg to Torsby: Take E45 towards Karlstad. Just after Grums E45 turns off to the left. Follow E45 towards Mora until you reach Torsby. Turn right at the roundabout. Turn left at the Torsby Vehicle Museum (“Torsby Fordonsmuseum”), which is on the left before you reach the town centre (after the second pedestrian crossing). You park the car at the barn down by the river.
From Stockholm to Torsby: Take the E18 towards Oslo/Karlstad. In Karlstad take road 61 towards Arvika. Turn right on E45 towards Sunne/Torsby/Mora. Turn right at the roundabout. Turn left at the Torsby Vehicle Museum (“Torsby Fordonsmuseum”), which is on the left before you reach the town centre. You park the car at the barn down by the river.
Approximate driving time by car from some cities to Torsby:
- From Göteborg – 4 hours.
- From Stockholm – 4,5 hours.
- From Oslo – 2,5 hours.
- From Karlstad – 1,5 hours.
Service in the area
In Torsby there are several centrally located restaurants and shops, including a patisserie and a Tourist Office. The nearest grocery stores are Coop and ICA Toria, which are located next to the roundabout at the entrance to the center from road E45/E16 (approx. 5-10 minute walk from the meeting point for the canoe tours on Röjdån and Rottnan).
Note! Do you need to use the toilet? There is a toilet in the restaurant at the ICA Toria Supermarket. There is a toilet in the vehicle museum “Torsby Fordonsmuseum” next to “Torsby Herrgård”, but this is only for visitors to the museum. Please respect this! If you would like to use the toilet or do some shopping, this should be done before the meeting time.
