The Klar\u00e4lven River was Sweden\u2019s last log driving river; in 1991, the final timber floated downstream.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"block-container block-core-paragraph\"><div class=\"block is-wp-block core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the tradition lives on. Even today, we use the same techniques when setting out the log booms. Our guests build their own rafts using nothing but logs and rope. For centuries, its steady current carried timber from the northern forests to sawmills and pulp mills in the south.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"block-container block-core-paragraph\"><div class=\"block is-wp-block core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each log was marked with its owner\u2019s symbol and set adrift on the river. In Forshaga, two sorting stations gathered the timber, where it was separated by owner and then towed in long bundles by boat towards Karlstad. At its peak in the 1950s, more than 1,800 people worked in log driving along the Klar\u00e4lven.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"block-container block-core-paragraph\"><div class=\"block is-wp-block core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1991, this era came to an end. Since then, all timber has been transported by road and rail.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"block-container block-core-media-text\"><div class=\"block is-wp-block core-media-text\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-image-fill-element\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\"><div class=\"block-container block-core-heading\"><div class=\"block is-wp-block core-heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2026and still does today<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"block-container block-core-paragraph\"><div class=\"block is-wp-block core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although log driving on the Klar\u00e4lven River is now part of history, logs are still carried by its waters. Since 1980\u2014initially alongside the final years of traditional log driving\u2014people from all over the world have been coming to northern V\u00e4rmland each summer to build their own timber rafts on the Klar\u00e4lven.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"block-container block-core-paragraph\"><div class=\"block is-wp-block core-paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To construct a sturdy raft, you\u2019ll need around 60 logs of varying sizes and approximately 200 metres of rope. We help you combine these elements into a unique vessel.
