Meeting point Gunnerud
The meeting point, Gunnerud, is in a small village about 100km north of Karlstad along road 62 in Värmland. Note! There are many locations called “Gunnerud” in Värmland. Make sure that you choose the right one. “Our” Gunnerud is located at 683 61 Ekshärad, in the Hagfors municipality. You will go to Gunnerud if you have booked a longer timber raft trip (5 or 8 days) or a canoe trip on the river Klarälven, Svartälven or Bergslagen.
From all the major cities such as Gothenburg, Stockholm, Copenhagen or Oslo, you can go by train or bus to Karlstad. Choose how you will travel and buy your ticket at: SJ (train), Flixbus or Bus4you. From Karlstad you keep on travel with bus 600, read more here under.
Travel by bus in Värmland
It is possible to take a bus with the public transport company “Värmlandstrafik” from Karlstad to Gunnerud (bus number 600). You can visit their website and search for available dates and times: https://www.varmlandstrafik.se/varmlandstrafik. The website is only in Swedish, but on the first page in the field “Från” you write “Karlstad” and then choose either “Karlstad Busstationen” (the bus station) or “Karlstad Centralstationen” (the railway station) from the options.
In the field “Till” you write “Gunnerud” and choose “Gunnerudsgården, Ekshärad” from the options. In the next field you fill in the date (and time) you want to travel. Then you click “Sök resa”.
If you take the bus from Karlstad, get off at the stop “Gunnerudsgården, Ekshärad”, which is the stop closest to our camp in Gunnerud. Tell the driver you want to get off at this stop. Follow the gravel road with the sign “Vildmark i Värmland” to the end. After about a 5-10 minutes’ walk, you will arrive at the camp in Gunnerud.
Note! On Saturdays and Sundays, the bus does not go to Gunnerud. Then you can instead get off at the bus stop “Sjögränd, Uddeholm”, which is about 4km south of Gunnerud. Let us know in advance if you travel to Sjögränd and we can arrange transportation to Gunnerud (valid for arrival on the same day, nearest connecting bus to the start time of the event). The bus journey from Karlstad to Gunnerud takes about 2 hours.
Travel by car
If you drive to Gunnerud and are coming from the south – aim for Karlstad. Then follow road 62 from Karlstad towards Trysil. You pass through Munkfors and a little later pass the exit to Hagfors. About four kilometres north of the exit to Hagfors, at Edebäck, you cross the bridge over the river Klarälven. After about another 700 metres, turn right at the sign “Vildmark i Värmland”. Follow the dirt road to its end and you will find yourself at the meeting point in Gunnerud, about an hour and a half drive from Karlstad.

- From Göteborg – 4,5 hours.
- From Stockholm – 5 hours.
- From Oslo – 3 hours.
- From Karlstad – 1 hour 15 minutes.
Service in the area close to our camp in Gunnerud
The nearest supermarket is in Råda about 7 km south of Gunnerud. More shops and restaurants are located in Hagfors centre, 12 km south east of Gunnerud, and in Ekshärad, 12 km north of Gunnerud.
Our camp in Gunnerud is very simply equipped. It is close to the river with green spaces to pitch your tent, fireplaces and outhouses. You can park your car here. Our camp in Gunnerud is only for booked guests.
