BEAVER SAFARI
On select summer evenings, you can embark on an enjoyable tour by rubber boat or canoe (depending on number of people), along the serene river Klarälven. Immersed in nature, you’ll float peacefully as the sunset casts a warm glow over the landscape. Keep a keen eye out for the busy beaver, they are known to inhabit the banks of the river, and with a bit of luck, you may catch a glimpse of their industrious activities.

HIKING
Explore four different hiking areas, two of which are designated nature reserves, during this self-guided adventure. All the trails are well-marked, ensuring a rewarding experience for nature enthusiasts. We provide you with the necessary maps, and you can hike at your own pace. Your accommodation is in a cozy cabin at Klarälvens Camping. As an added bonus, you have access to the wood-heated sauna and a canoe during your stay, allowing you to fully unwind and further explore the natural surroundings.
Tips from Us
Beaver safari: Book a night in tent or cabin on Klarälvens Camping after the adventure. In this way you don’t must go home late at night. Bring mosquito repellent and binoculars on the trip. Sometimes the beavers are difficult to spot when only their heads are visible during aswim in the river. Spotting the mosquitoes, however, is usually not a problem, especially during times when there are a lot of mosquitoes.
Hiking: Bring bath clothes to hikes at Femtån and at Brattfallet. A dip in the cold water is a refreshing highlight after a challenging hike. But as with all hikes: don’t forget to bring a water bottle and some energy-rich food.
Frequently asked questions
Is it suitable to bring small children on a Beaver Safari?
Beaver Safari is an activity that is experienced in the evening. The beavers are most active during dusk/night/dawn and to increase the chance of seeing beavers, we are out when it starts to get dark and onwards. We do not have a minimum age limit for children, but you as the legal guardian know the child best if she/he can take part in an activity that takes about six hours and will not finish until about 11:30 p.m.
Are the trails demanding?
The various hiking trails differ somewhat. Several of them are classified as demanding, but with normal fitness and mobility there are no problems to hike the trails. The trails are mostly on paths where there are stones and roots in some parts. Most trails also involve some height differences. The easiest is the trail in “Fänstjärnsskogen” and the hiking loop in “Brattfallet”.
Can we bring the dog on a Beaver Safari?
Bringing your dog or other pets on a beaver safari is not a good idea. Leave the dog/pet at home this time.
Are there shelters and rest areas along the trails?
It varies. In “Fänstjärnsskogen” there is a hut that is open to everyone. At “Brattfallet” there is a rest area with several tables, and along the trail “Halgåleden” there is a wind shelter. Along the trails on “Hovfjället”, there are rest areas with tables and on the trail “Torprundan” you will pass a croft where you also will find an outhouse. At “Fämtån” there are tables and a wind shelter below the waterfall at the beginning of the trail, but not along the trail itself.
On foot in northern Värmland
A cabin at Klarälvens Camping is a perfekt base camp for different hikes.
If you go a bit to Northwest, you come to the small river Femtån wich, after an impressive waterfall, leads into Klarälven. At Femtån you will find a nice hiking trail. If you are lucky you can taste “Motti med fläsk”, a traditional meal that a local community association offers on certain evenings during summer.
However, if you turn a little to the Northeast, you quickly reach the Fänstjärnsskogen nature reserve, which is a real old-growth forest and one of the most valuable in Central Sweden.
Head Southwest when you are on your way to Hovfjället. It is also a nature reserve and offers several different hikes with both shorter and longer distances.
Finally, the road leads Southeast where you come to Brattfallet. This is also a waterfall on one of the Klarälven tributaries. The Halgån River has created a deep canyon and a hike in this environment offers magnificent views.
