Your journey begins on Västra Sundsjön west of Hagfors and ends at the southern tip of Lake Naren.

Can we shop along the Bergslagen tour?

No, you will not pass any stores.

How many portages are there on the Bergslagen tour?

The tour has 8 portages, the longest being about 4 km. Unfortunately, there is one short section (about 60 m) where the canoe cart cannot be used, so everything must be carried. Since the tour includes many portages, make sure not to bring too much personal equipment. Pack everything in a backpack, as you must be able to carry as much of your own equipment as possible during portages. The canoe cart cannot handle a fully loaded canoe.

Why is the tour called Bergslagen?

Bergslagen is a geographical area that is not clearly separated from the surrounding regions (eastern Värmland, southern Dalarna, Närke, and northern Västmanland), but where extensive mining and metal industries were historically conducted, with many ironworks and mining operations. This area had everything needed to build an iron industry: mountains, forests, and water — the same things that attract tourists today!

Are we allowed to fish in the area? What kind of fish can we catch?

We provide fishing permits valid for certain waters along your route. These can be purchased in Gunnerud at check-in. The most common fish species are perch and pike, but whitefish and burbot also occur.
