A partnership with nature

A holiday with Vildmark i Värmland means a holiday close to nature. All of the activities we offer take place outdoors. Our guests build and travel on timber rafts, paddle canoes, spot beavers, or hike through deep forests. Our accommodation at Klarälven Camping is also located in close connection to a wide range of nature-based activities. Vildmark i Värmland is, naturally, a nature tourism company. But is nature a good partner?

Tre röda tält från Hilleberg står på en gräsmatta vid Klarälvens strand. Det är tidigt morgon, himlens gryningen visar en glimt av solen. Över ängen ligger dimman som en mantel och skapar en sagolik atmosfär.

Nature is a wonderful partner!

Time spent in nature offers countless experiences and impressions that are truly invaluable. You may be paddling a canoe – but beyond that, you notice a fish rising to the surface, feel the wind against your skin, and hear the splash of a beaver’s tail. You hear raindrops drumming against the tent fabric, watch the morning mist lift, or see the sun’s rays reflected on the water’s surface. Where does your experience begin?

Many studies have shown that contact with nature benefits both physical and mental health. Nature offers restoration and contributes to public well-being.

Nature is an unpredictable partner!

In nature, it is not we humans who set the rules. We can make use of and respond to the conditions we are given, but nature will always have the final say.

Vildmark i Värmland was founded in 1980, and ever since, timber rafts have drifted down the Klarälven each summer, in sunshine and rain alike. There have been warm summers and cold ones, wet seasons and dry. The water level in the Klarälven is significantly affected by current weather conditions, even though the river is regulated by a total of nine hydroelectric power stations on the Swedish side.

For Vildmark i Värmland, this means constantly adapting to the conditions of the moment. “All water levels are normal,” as we often say. For almost half a century, we have learned to work with both high and low water levels alike.

High or low water?

A timber raft needs roughly knee-deep water to float freely. When water levels are low, it is possible to get stuck – both while building the raft and out on the river. It is important to stay observant and learn to read the signs that the water may be becoming too shallow for the raft. If you do run aground, it happens gently and calmly. Getting the raft moving again can be a challenge, but there is always a solution, drawing on the knowledge and guidance we provide before your adventure begins.

High water levels, on the other hand, bring faster currents and greater forces in the river. Steering the raft requires more physical effort, and if you find yourself caught in an eddy, everyone on board truly needs to work together to get free.

Travelling by timber raft is an adventure. Nature creates the conditions for each unique journey – and that is precisely what makes every experience unique.

Would you like to experience a partnership with nature yourself?

Give both body and soul something truly rewarding and choose a holiday in nature. Through a variety of experiences, Vildmark i Värmland hopes to inspire more people to spend time outdoors. We are convinced of the great benefits that both individuals and society can gain through a partnership with nature.
