Now: Beaver Safari every Thursday

There is something magical about Scandinavian summer evenings. Long after the sun has set, the sky remains softly lit, making it almost impossible to head indoors. As the heat of the day fades, the landscape comes alive, and this is when one of the river’s most remarkable inhabitants begins its nightly routine: the beaver.

Every Thursday evening throughout July and the first half of August, we invite you to join us for a Beaver Safari on the Klarälven River. Glide quietly through the calm waters and keep watch for nature’s master builder in its natural habitat. With a little patience—and a bit of luck—you may spot a beaver swimming, gathering branches, or tending its lodge while the Nordic summer evening unfolds around you.

A remarkable animal

The beaver is Sweden’s largest rodent, growing up to 75 cm (30 in) in length. Its thick, dense fur keeps it warm and dry, even in cold water. In fact, a single square centimetre of fur on a beaver’s belly contains around 23,000 hairs. By comparison, humans have only about 600 hairs per square centimetre.

One of the beaver’s most impressive skills is its ability to fell trees that would require us to use an axe or a saw. The beaver does it with nothing but its powerful teeth.
The trees it cuts down provide both food—leaves, twigs, and bark—and building materials for the remarkable lodges and dams that have made this ingenious engineer of nature famous around the world.

What is a Beaver Safari?

The best way to experience beavers in their natural habitat is to venture out onto the water yourself. After an introduction to these fascinating animals and their unique behaviour, we set off by canoe or inflatable raft on the beautiful waters of the Klarälven River.
Paddling quietly along the shoreline, we keep our eyes open for signs of beaver activity and, with a little luck, a chance to watch one at work in the wild.

Along the way, we’ll stop on a riverbank or a small island to light a campfire, grill sausages, and soak up the tranquillity of a long Scandinavian summer evening before continuing our journey.

Does it sound like your kind of adventure?

There are still a few places available on our Beaver Safaris over the coming Thursdays. Join us for a memorable evening on the Klarälven River and experience the magic of the Scandinavian summer at its very best.
You’ll find everything you need to know, along with booking information, on our Beaver Safari page.
