How do you build a timber raft?

Building your own timber raft is a challenging and physically demanding task, but the reward is well worth the effort. We start by teaching you the necessary skills, including how to tie the appropriate knots and lashings to construct the raft. Safety is our top priority. We provide thorough safety instructions as well as other important information you’ll need to know for your journey. Timber rafts are built using only logs and ropes. The logs are stored in piles on the riverbank, and your job is to carry and roll them into the water, where you’ll tie the raft together. Our experienced instructor will be on-site to provide guidance and assistance throughout the process. Depending on the package you’ve booked, there are two different meeting points. For the 5 day and 8 day tours, you’ll meet in Gunnerud, while the shorter trips will meet at Klarälvens Camping.

What can you expect from a timber raft tour?

The rafting experience is greatly influenced by the water level, as well as the weather and wind conditions. For example, if the water level is low, you may need to spend the entire day out on the river, navigating your raft. This journey will require all hands on deck and plenty of good ideas, as you encounter various obstacles such as sandbars, rocks, backwaters, and fallen trees. Landing the raft at your desired location can be challenging, but you can use the accompanying canoe or kayak to make the process easier. Throughout the tour, you set your pace, you are responsible for planning your own itinerary based on the water levels, wind and weather. It’s a delicate balance of excitement and relaxation, where cooperation and teamwork are essential. You’ll face the unpredictable river together, making decisions and overcoming challenges as a group.
